PROGRAMME 2019

On the first day of the seminar, a selected group of speakers will immerse the alumni in visionary approaches on strategic thinking and development. This day is defined as VISION day. The second day, ACTION day, a workshop is organized that will allow alumni to translate this theoretical visionary approach into a hands-on change framework.

SPEAKER THOMAS ESTERMANN on Efficiency, leadership and governance (tbd)

Thomas Estermann is Director for Governance, Funding and Public Policy Development with responsibilities for EUA’s work aimed at strengthening universities’ autonomy, governance, management and their financial sustainability.
Before joining EUA in July 2007, Thomas Estermann was Deputy Head of Strategic Development and Deputy Head of Administration at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, a member of the universities' senate and involved in the last two reforms in higher education in Austria. Before entering the University in 1997, he pursued a career as a lawyer.
Thomas is member of several European and national committees, expert groups, editorial boards, advisory groups and contributes on a regular basis to higher education management programmes and national higher education reform processes. He has published on the topic of university funding, governance and management. He holds a Master’s degree in law from the University of Vienna.

10:40 - 11:40 SPEAKER SASKIA VAN UFFELEN on The Impact of Digitilisation (tbd)
Saskia Van Uffelen has been working in the sector of information and communication technology (ICT) for over 25 years. She has held national and international sales and marketing functions in leading companies such as Xerox, Compaq, HP, Arinso, Bull and Ericsson. Since 2012, the federal ministry of economic affairs appointed Saskia Van Uffelen as ‘Digital Champion’ for Belgium representing the European Commission.  To stimulate the roll out of the Digital Agenda in Belgium she sensitizes all parties involved in 5 areas: Digital Economy; Digital Government; Digital Infrastructure; Digital Security; Digital Skills.

The University Foundation was created in 1920 with the mission to support higher education and scientific research. The University Foundation is a meeting place for academics from the whole country and for Belgian academics with colleagues from abroad, and also a place where academics meet with civil society representatives (representatives of private companies and public servants).

Daan is Adjunct Professor, member of The Future Leadership Initiative and co-academic director of the Masterclass Change Management at the Antwerp Management School, Belgium. Teaching political skills and change management skills in master after master and executive leadership development programs, and delivering keynotes and doing research in these topics.
He also teaches at Sioo, the inter-university centre that teaches people and organisations how to be agile in change management and organisational processes.

GUIDED TOUR OF THE VANHAERENTS ART COLLECTION
The Vanhaerents Art Collection is a unique and comprehensive collection of contemporary art, assembled by Walter Vanhaerents and his children Els and Joost. It enjoys the individual approach to collecting of its founders, as well as their shared passion for new and provocative art.

The collection profoundly reflects the diversity and vitality of current art practices. Both established and emerging artists are represented in its holdings, with works in various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography and video.

The Vanhaerents Art Collection is presenting its second major exhibition outside Belgium, which is part of the official Collateral Events program of the Biennale Arte 2019, 58th International Art Exhibition.
Entitled The Death of James Lee Byars, this exhibition with works by James Lee Byars and Zad Moultaka will be on view at the church of the Santa Maria della Visitazione from May 11 to November 24, 2019.
